It’s back….the BJJ Hertfordshire Athlete Sponsorship Programme

by Enzo Vullo on June 26, 2015

Money is a poor reason to do something you do not want to do.
Money is an even poorer reason not to do something you want to do.

So, following on from last year, once again I will be sponsoring athletes to compete in the 2016 IBJJF European Championships in Lisbon, Portugal.

Sponsorship will include flights and entry fees and will be awarded to every and any athlete that achieves the required criteria. Just to be clear, hotels and expenses will not be included.

Full details:

In my opinion, intelligent effort applied consistently and persistently over time that results in the achievement of a pre determined goal should be rewarded.

I also believe that it is important to give as much as you can, whenever you can.

To facilitate this, last year, I created the BJJ Hertfordshire Athlete Sponsorship Programme.

This initiative is directly aligned to the three pillars our club is built on: ‘Support, Progression & Recognition’.

In a world where talk is cheap, I stand by these words and ensure that operational and strategic decisions at BJJ Hertfordshire are aligned to supporting, progressing or recognising students.

Last year Dom Walsh came very close to achieving sponsorship, but unfortunately he was injured and unable to compete at the English Open.

Can anyone go one step further this year?

So what do you need to do? It’s easy really:

  1. Register your interest by email ( or text (07867512903) by the 31st July 2015
  2. Attend a class on 75% of days BJJ Hertfordshire is open between the 01/08/2015 and 31/10/2015. This means if the academy is open and you attend one of the two classes running then you have attended a class on that day. We are open 4 days a week, so make sure you train 3 times a week and you will be fine.
  3. Demonstrate you have a valid passport to travel in January and February 2016 by the 01/11/2015.
  4. Win gold in your division at the English Open im November 2015

Once you do all the above I will book the flight on the week after the English Open.

Frequently asked questions:

Q. I am a white belt, do I qualify?

A. Yes, white belts are people too.

Q. I am going on holiday for 3 weeks in August can I start in September ?

A. No. If you really want this, find a way.

Q. Can this sponsorships be transferred between students?

A. No medal whoring or other inappropriate sharing is allowed. This is down to you and no one else.

Q. Can I have the cash value instead?

A. No. If you have to ask this then you are in the wrong sport.

Q. What is the catch?

A. There is no catch.

Q. What is the small print?

A. There is no small print, if 10 people achieve the above then I will pay for 10 people’s flights and entry fee.

Q. Seriously, what will I have to do to not get my flights and entry fee paid for?

A. The only way I will not pay for the above is if you bring the club into disrepute in any way at training, at a competition or in your everyday life. This includes the non payment of any fees owed to the club. If this happens you will also be asked to leave our team. By being part of our club you automatically represent us. I therefore reserve the right to terminate your involvement with our club if you act like a buffoon. I appreciate that everyone makes mistakes so I will make a decision on this if this issue arises on a case by case basis. But ultimately we all know the difference between right and wrong, so make sure you do the right thing.
